vivo X Fold3 Review: A Premium Foldable Done Right
The vivo X Fold3 is the latest foldable smartphone to hit the market, aimed at competing with flagship devices from Samsung and Huawei. After spending some time testing it out, here are my thoughts on this innovative new device.
Design and Build
Right out of the box, it’s clear that vivo has paid close attention to design and build quality with the X Fold3. When unfolded, it has a large 8-inch AMOLED display with virtually no bezels, creating an immersive tablet-like experience. Folded up, its dual screens (internal and cover display) give you plenty of real estate whether using one-handed or closed-up. At just 219g and 4.7mm thin when unfolded, it feels surprisingly lightweight and compact.
The X Fold3 features a carbon fiber hinge that feels very sturdy. vivo says it can withstand up to 200,000 folds without issue. Both the internal and external screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. Build quality feels every bit as solid and premium as offerings from Samsung.
Performance and Hardware
Under the hood, the X Fold3 packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip for blazing fast performance. It screams along with no lag or stutters thanks to the chip’s 4nm architecture and 16GB of RAM. Gaming, multitasking, and heavy apps feel incredibly smooth.
Three 50MP rear cameras (wide, ultrawide, telephoto) provide capable photography abilities, though low-light shots could be better. The 32MP selfie cameras take excellent shots. Other nice touches include stereo speakers, 5G connectivity, NFC, and an enormous 5500mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
Software
OriginOS is Vivo’s custom skin built on top of Android 14. It provides a smooth, bug-free experience and all the customization options you’d expect. App continuity between the inner and outer displays works flawlessly thanks to Vivo’s Multi-Turbo technology.
Priced around 900 euros, the vivo X Fold3 certainly doesn’t come cheap. However, for the build, performance, and unique folding design, it undercuts similar devices from Samsung and Huawei by a couple of hundred euros. Early adopters keen on having one of the lightest and best-engineered foldables will find a lot to like.
